Publicado originalmente em 21 de novembro de 2023, o clipe oficial de Hell, Fire and Damnation marca o lançamento do faixa-título de um álbum do Saxon na forma de uma canção que mistura uma pegada meio Dio com o que podemos esperar desta banda clássica do heavy metal britânico.
O vocalista e fundador Biff Byford conta que a expressão que dá nome à música o acompanha desde a infância:
“Meu pai costumava dizer ‘Hell, fire and damnation, what’s tha’ been doing now?!’ quando eu fazia alguma besteira. Era um ditado muito comum em Yorkshire”, relembra Biff, rindo.
A canção, segundo ele, explora o eterno embate entre o bem e o mal, tema central do álbum:
“Há tantas músicas sobre o inferno e o diabo que achei que estava na hora de escrever uma sobre a luta entre o bem e o mal. Todos precisamos escolher de que lado estamos.”
O vídeo — dirigido, produzido e editado por Paul M. Green, com câmeras de Anthony Graham, Ben Ripley, Gwyn Hemmings e o próprio Green — entrega o peso e a energia que se espera do Saxon.
O álbum Hell, Fire and Damnation mergulha em temas de história e mistério ao longo de dez faixas poderosas e confiantes. Biff entrega seus vocais mais intensos em anos, enquanto Nigel Glockler (bateria) e Nibbs Carter (baixo) constroem uma sólida base rítmica, com as guitarras de Doug Scarratt e Brian Tatler se complementando.
Produzido por Andy Sneap (Judas Priest, Exodus, Accept) em parceria com Biff Byford — e também mixado e masterizado por Sneap — o disco traz faixas como Fire and Steel, descrito como um tributo direto ao metal, e Pirates of the Airwaves, uma homenagem às origens da NWOBHM. Já There’s Something in Roswell surge, sendo descrita como algo “como uma joia cósmica digna de arenas”.
